BACON-WRAPPED CARAMELIZED ASPARAGUS

BACON-WRAPPED CARAMELIZED ASPARAGUS

When it comes to cheat foods, there's truly nothing better than bacon. (Okay, maybe pizza and donuts squeak in a close second.) If you're looking for a way to sneak in some bacon without feeling to guilty, this bacon-wrapped caramelized sesame asparagus provides a fantastic opportunity.

Seriously, for those of you who may not eat asparagus on the regular, it's a veritable superfood. It comes chock full of important micronutrients, including fiber, folate, vitamins A, C, E and K, and chromium. It's also packed with antioxidants that can help slow the aging process and stave off cognitive decline. For those with high blood pressure or other heart-related diseases, asparagus also contains asparagine, which serves as a natural diuretic helping to rid the body of excess salts.

To take full advantage of the awesome benefits offered by asparagus, give this recipe a try the next time you're craving something savory. It serves 4 people, so be sure to share and not scarf down the whole batch!

INGREDIENTS

1 bunch of asparagus (20-25 spears), with the stems removed
4 slices of thick-cut bacon
1.5 tbsp. of olive oil
1/2 tbsp. of toasted sesame oil
1.5 tbsp. of brown sugar
1 minced garlic clove
1/2 tbsp. of toasted sesame seeds

DIRECTIONS

1. Preheat an oven to 400 degrees F. Cover a baking sheet with tinfoil, then put a wire rack on top after spraying with nonstick cooking spray.
2. Combine the oils, brown sugar, and garlic in a bowl, then set aside.
3. Bunch about 5-6 asparagus spears together and wrap them tightly with a bacon strip. Place the bundle seam-side down on the wire rack and repeat with the other spears.
4. Using a brush, spoon, or even your hands, coat the spears with the oil and sugar mixture. Sprinkle heavily with sesame seeds, then roast for 35-40 minutes or until the bacon gets crispy. Serve up and enjoy!
